- The discovery was announced by PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB), a wholly-owned subsidiary of PETRONAS.
- The oil and gas were discovered at the Nahara-1 well in Block SK306, located in the shallow waters of Balingian Province, approximately 150 kilometers from Bintulu, off the coast of Sarawak, offshore Malaysia.
- The Nahara-1 well was drilled to a total depth of 2,468 meters.
- Hydrocarbons were encountered in sedimentary sequences aged from the Late Oligocene to Middle Miocene. Light oil with minimal contaminants was confirmed after production testing.
- PCSB is the operator of Block SK306 and holds a 100% participating interest in its Production Sharing Contract.
- According to PETRONAS Vice President of Exploration, Mohd Redhani Abdul Rahman, this is a significant oil discovery by PCSB within the last decade and highlights the potential in Malaysia’s prolific basins.
